ABOUT THE KCSA

Inspired by the philosophy and humanism of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the Kansas City Suzuki Academy is a growing community of parents, students, and teachers dedicated to nurturing young people through the study of music. Since it’s founding in 2015, the KCSA has enjoyed a reputation for excellence and sharing the gift of music throughout the region. Our program engages students by working with them twice a week, once for a weekly private lesson and once for a Suzuki group lesson or ensemble course. In private lessons, we hone in on developing a beautiful tone and sensitivity to music, and in group lessons our students draw on each other as a source of motivation while developing musical ensemble and listening skills.

Each member of our faculty has advanced college degrees in music in addition to years of registered teacher training in the Suzuki method. Suzuki teacher training goes beyond just using the method books, and involves many hours of observation, instruction and feedback from master teachers. All of our Suzuki teachers are professional musicians with a passion for excellent teaching for students of all ages!

The KCSA student body ranges in age from birth through age 18. Group repertoire classes are divided by instrument and book level, ranging from beginner through advanced. Our students develop strong note reading skills that they use in our Suzuki orchestra programs, school orchestra, Youth Symphony and beyond. Our older students thrive with regular chamber music coachings, master classes, and music history lessons. Our youngest students develop essential skills such as listening, turn-taking and self-control through our Suzuki Early Childhood Education classes. Group and solo performances are a highlight of each year with our students gaining confidence through performing and inspiring others by sharing their artistry with family, friends and everyone in our KCSA community.

We engage in human education through music so that children will grow with beautiful and high sensitivity, through an unparalleled, uniquely musical approach.
